Kolkata: The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has suspended two persons including project director of its power plant at Raghunathpur in Purulia for using low quality coal. The company, which used to supply coal for the unit, has also been blacklisted and its agreement terminated.
"Low quality coal was coming at the Raghunathpur unit. Our vigilance had conducted a departmental enquiry and after finding irregularities, we have suspended the project director and a deputy chief engineer. They have been transferred elsewhere," DVC chairman PK Mukhopadhyay sai.
The action was taken as the DVC authorities had some concrete evidence against the duo. Otherwise they would had been showcaused first.
A senior official of the Raghunathpur plant had lodged a complaint with the local police station and also
informed the district magistrate about irregularities, urging the DVC to take action against the supplier of such low quality coal.
Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station is a 1200 MW coal-based thermal power plant located at Raghunathpur in Purulia district.
The railway connection with Jharkhand, which was a problem, has recently been established and it was deemed that coal supply for the unit will get a boost.
However, the problem in generation continued that prompted the DVC to probe into the matter.
The DVC chairman in April had announced DVC's termination of MoU with NLC India (Neyveli Lignite) to hive-off 1200MW
Raghunathpur thermal power plant into a JV despite Bengal government's approval for the same.
