Kolkata: The Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore on Friday predicted that the coastal districts of Bengal may receive rainfall during the days of Durga Puja as a low pressure trough will form over Bay-of-Bengal.
A senior official at the Alipore MeT office said the city dwellers have nothing to worry about as the rain would have no major impact in the city.
The official said that a low pressure trough will be created over Bay-of-Bengal on 8 October that may bring rainfall mainly in the coastal districts for some days from October 11. If the low pressure trough further intensifies, it will continue to rain up to October 16.
It may drizzle in the city and its adjoining districts between October 11 and 15 due to the impact of the low pressure trough. The districts which may receive maximum rainfall are South24-Parganas and East Midnapore.
"The Southwest monsoon has officially departed from the city. But there is a possibility of a low pressure trough over Bay-of-Bengal ahead of Durga Puja that may bring rainfall mostly in the coastal districts.
The city is expected to stay dry during the five days of the Puja. There may be smart showers in Kolkata and other adjoining districts," the official from the Alipore MeT office said.
