Downpour likely to end in city today, North Bengal to face heavy rainfall
Kolkata: It may stop raining in the city and some South Bengal districts in the next 24 hours, while in North Bengal there is a prediction of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore on Wednesday predicted that the low pressure zone which was created over Bengal, has started moving towards Odisha, as a result of which rainfall will start subsiding in this part.
However, some of the coastal districts may receive some rainfall in the next 24 hours, as predicted by the weather office.
"There is a possibility of scattered rainfall in some of the coastal districts in the state, while the other South Bengal districts may stay dry in the next 24 hours, owing to the movement of the low pressure zone towards Odisha. The situation will improve in the city," a senior official of the weather office said.
According to the weather office prediction, North Bengal districts may continue to receive heavy rainfall.
Various South Bengal districts, including the city, received light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday morning. Commuters faced difficulties while going to their workplaces during the rain.
The monsoon current had also gained strength early this week, bringing more rainfall. The monsoon had entered the state a while ago, but had stalled due to the impact of the Westerly winds, which brought heat wave condition in the state.
There is a possibility of isolated incidents of thunderstorm in some districts of South Bengal in the next two days, the weather office said.
The rain had brought relief to the people, when the city was reeling under the scorching summer heat.
The weather is expected to remain comfortable, with relative humidity remaining normal. People may not face sultry and uncomfortable weather for the next 24 hours, the weather office said.
