Mystery shrouds the death of a 17-year-old girl who was found hanging from a room in the house of a retired police
officer at Amherst Street in North Kolkata on Wednesday.
Police said that the victim Mousumi Das was a resident of Ketugram in Burdwan. She had been working as domestic help in the house of the retired sub-inspector Swapan Das for the past two-and-a-half years.
The retired police officer used to stay in the first floor of the four-storeyed building and there are some abandoned rooms in the third floor. The girl was found hanging from the ceiling fan in one of the abandoned rooms.
Local people brought down the girl and the police had also reached the spot. The girl was declared brought dead when she was taken to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital.
Police said that there was no injury marks found on her body that has been sent for an autopsy.
Since there were no injury marks on her body, police suspect that the girl has committed suicide.
The victim's family members have been informed and the police are trying to ascertain the exact reason that had forced the girl to commit suicide. The police will be asking her parents whether she was suffering from depression or facing any problem.
