Disappointed with no obituary for Krishna Bose, Sugata writes to Speaker
Kolkata: Former Trinamool Congress MP and noted historian Prof Sugata Bose wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressing his "disappointment that the Lok Sabha has not cared to take note of the passing away" of his mother Krishna Bose, who was MP for three terms.
She passed away at a private
hospital in Kolkata on February 22.
She was a member of the 11th, 12th
and 13th Lok Sabha and chairperson
of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs from 1999 to 2004.
In the letter, Bose stated that "she passed away on February 22. Her biographical details were provided to your Secretariat the next day. Even though the Parliament has been in session for the last two weeks, we are deeply disappointed that the Lok Sabha has not cared to take note of the passing away of an eminent parliamentarian and citizen as Shrimati Krishna Bose".
Besides being a parliamentarian, she was a renowned author, a
leading educationist and chairperson
of Netaji Research Bureau, the letter read.
He further stated in the letter: "We are writing to request you to not read her obituary notice in the Lok Sabha as it would be a meaningless ritual and not show respect to her departed soul. As a true patriot, she had been disheartened in her final days to witness the assault on the values of the Parliamentary democracy... We are grateful that the ordinary people of our country have paid their heartfelt homage to her. We are sure that she would have preferred to do without belated institutional recognition from the Parliament she had served with such dedication".
She was cremated at Keoratala crematorium with full state honours and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee went to Netaji Bhavan at Elgin Road to pay her last respect.
