Kolkata: State BJP president Dilip Ghosh allegedly travelled in a car with 'police' sticker pasted on its windshield on Sunday at Durgapur. Later, a local resident identified as Akhil Shee lodged a complaint against Ghosh, narrating the incident on Monday at Durgapur police station, requesting necessary action.
On Sunday, BJP organised rallies across the state, calling them 'Sankalpa Yatras'. As per their plan, BJP supporters gathered at the Rajiv Gandhi Maidan in Durgapur. Local BJP leadership was preparing to start the rally which was supposed to be led by the party's West Burdwan district president Lakshman Ghorui.
But just before the rally was about to commence, police asked the BJP leaders to stop as the rally had no permission. As Ghorui and the others refused to follow the order, they were arrested. After some time, Ghosh arrived at the spot in a car. He was seen sitting in the front seat. A 'police' sticker was pasted on the driver's side, while in front of Ghosh a logo of BJP was seen on the windshield. West Burdwan Trinamool leaders have alleged that Ghosh used the sticker for extortion purposes.
Ghosh claimed that his security personnel, who are policemen, use the car which is why the sticker was on the car. Though the BJP leader is allegedly not taking the issue seriously, no one other than police personnel can use a car with 'police' sticker pasted anywhere on the car.
Interestingly, the vehicle in question bearing registration number WB 08B 6307, belongs to one Roshmi Doll Chakraborty and is registered with the Regional Transport Authority, Salt Lake, as per the database of Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
