Council cancels registration of 5 examinees

Kolkata: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has decided to cancel the registration of five examinees, who were caught with mobile phones, inside the examination centres.

The four students against whom the Council has acted tough are from Old Malda while one is from Howrah district.

The Higher Secondary examination kicked off with the first language examination on Tuesday and it was held

peacefully across the state amidst strict measures by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.

According to sources in the Council, three of the students who were caught with mobile phone are students of Shyammukhi Balika Vidyalaya in Malda the fourth student was from Kalachand High School in Malda while the fifth was from Nalhata Abinash High School in Howrah.

"They have been caught red-handed with mobile phones inside examination centre," said Mohua Das,

president of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.

The Council has made it clear that the entry with mobile phones is banned in the examination centre and the registration of a student will be cancelled if he /she is caught with a cell phone.

It may be mentioned that during the Madhyamik examination that concluded recently questions were leaked and circulated through Whats app soon after the beginning of the examination on more than one occasion.

The Council in a press release issued on Tuesday also expressed its satisfaction over the performance of the officials associated with examination duties.

The state government on Tuesday morning ordered the internet service providers to suspend internet service in six districts during the ongoing Higher Secondary Examination.

As per the decision, the district authorities of Malda, Nadia, East Burdwan, Murshidabad, North Dinajpur and North 24-Parganas have ordered to do the needful to stop internet services at vulnerable areas in each districts. These were the districts that had come under the scanner after the question papers of Madhyamik were found circulating on Whatsapp. The state Criminal Investigation Department is investigating into the matter and arrested eight students including Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinees in this connection.

A source informed that as examinations were scheduled from 10 am to 1 pm, it was ordered that internet services should be stopped from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

A source in the district administration said the internet service providers acted as per instructions and will continue to do so till the end of the Higher Secondary Examination.
