Colleges, universities will remain shut in Dec, exams to be held in virtual mode
Kolkata: The colleges and universities in the state will not reopen in December.
But, classes will continue to be conducted in the online mode. State Education minister Partha Chatterjee on Sunday held a virtual meeting with the Vice-Chancellors of the state universities and the latter were asked to make plans for holding the pending semester examinations—at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels—through the online mode.
Chatterjee also announced the opening up of admission portal for filling up the vacant seats in a number of colleges. "Colleges, where seats have remained vacant, can open their admission portal. The process will continue till December 15," said Chatterjee.
Chatterjee has also instructed the Vice Chancellors to reduce the syllabus as per recommendations of University Grants Commission. "The board of studies of the respective universities will frame the syllabus after discussion," he added.
"In some states, after educational institutions were reopened the Covid cases shot up. So, we have decided not to take any risk and open up colleges and varsities for students," said a senior official of state Higher Education
department.
Many students also apply for scholarships after admission into colleges. With the admission dates being extended, the Higher Education department will also extend the dates for availing scholarships.
