CMCH thrown in tizzy after patient goes missing

Kolkata: Chaos erupted at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital on Friday morning, after a patient went missing from the hospital campus.

It has been learnt that the patient, identified as Khokon Panda, was admitted to the medicine ward on Thursday evening.

A resident of Murshidabad, he was initially taken to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital after he complained

of liver related problems. He was subsequently shifted to CMCH as his condition deteriorated.

Early on Friday morning the patient had gone to the toilet, after which he went missing.

A relative of the patient who was in the hospital along with many others conducted a search but their efforts went in vain. The matter was informed to the hospital authorities.

A specific complaint was also lodged at the local police station on Friday morning. Police have started a probe in this regard.

Some patients have told the police that Panda left his bed at around 5.30 am, saying that he was going to the toilet. As he did not return, they went to the toilet and found that he was missing.

Police are yet to ascertain the exact cause behind the disappearance of the patient.

They are interrogating the family members of the patient as well as some patients who have been admitted in the

same ward.
