Kolkata: The hunger-strike by some of the medical students of Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) entered the eleven day on Friday.
It is learnt that some of students taking part in the hunger strike have fallen ill. Three students, who are seriously ill refused to get admitted to the hospital, despite several pleas by the CMCH authorities. The hospital authorities held a meeting with the agitating students but no solution was found.
The CMCH authorities refused to republish the allotment of hotel seats. Despite some of the students falling ill, the agitating students refused to lift the agitation.
They threatened to continue the agitation until their demands are met. Some junior doctors also took part in the agitation on Friday.
It may be mentioned that the second, third and fourth year MBBS students of CMCH started a protest agitation inside the hospital campus demanding a new hostel for them.
The move was taken after the first year MBBS students were given a new hostel. However, the CMCH authorities have agreed to meet the demands. The agitating students were assured that they would be given proper hostel accommodation.
Around 276 hostel rooms were allotted by the CMCH authorities. But the agitating students refused to listen to the authorities and demanded rooms in the new hostel building.
CMCH Principal, Uchhal Bhadra fell ill on Tuesday after being heckled by the
agitating students.
