Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her grief over the demise of National Award-winning director Mrinal Sen on Sunday. Banerjee tweeted: "Saddened at the passing away of Mrinal Sen. A great loss to the film industry. My condolences to his family."
Minister of state for Information and Cultural Affairs Indranil Sen visited the house of Sen as a representative of the government. "The Chief Minister instructed me to visit his place after she came to know about his demise. Sen's body will be cremated after his son returns to the city," the minister said.
Veteran film personalities like Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee, Mamata Shankar and director Budhhadeb Dasgupta paid their respects to the legendary director.
"Mrinal Da was like a father figure and a guardian to me. I am saddened at his death. I had the same feeling when I lost my father. He had always been so caring during my shooting days with him," Mamata Shankar said.
Renowned film director Budhhadeb Dasgupta said: "He was a great human being. His passing away is an irreparable loss to Indian Cinema."
"My almost 60 year long association with him ended today. I am devastated by his death," said veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee.
