Kolkata: The city-dwellers may feel the winter cold from the next week as the regional Meteorological centre at Alipore has predicted the possibility of the temperature falling down.
With the month of November nearing to its end, the city people are expecting for winter to set in. A weather officer said that the low pressure trough formed over Bay of Bengal started moving towards Bangladesh. Once it enters Bangladesh's territory, the temperature will start to go down.
The weather officer also said that the sky in some parts may remain cloudy because of existence of another low trough along Odisha and Jharkhand. This low trough has, however, weakened.
There may be some rain in some parts of both North and South Bengal. In the next few days, the lowest temperature will hover around 18-20 degrees Celsius. People may feel the cold from the middle of the next week, predicted the weather office. According to a senior official of Alipore MeT office, the city's sky will remain clear in the next few days. The Northern wind that brings cold in the city may start weeping through the city from Tuesday.
The weather experts have said that the number of dengue cases will go down once the temperature starts to fall. The Aedes Aegypti larvae cannot survive if the temperature drops below a certain limit.
The untimely rain that hit the city and South Bengal districts a few days ago had raised tension among people as accumulated water might turn into a breeding ground for dengue larvae.
