Update: 2019-09-28 16:46 GMT

Kolkata: The city dwellers who are planning to go for shopping on the last Sunday before the Durga Puja, must not forget to carry an umbrella with them as they might get drenched by a steady rain.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore on Saturday made some fresh prediction of scattered rainfall in various South Bengal districts in the next 48 hours following the formation of a low pressure area over South West Bay of Bengal. North Bengal districts will, however, witness a heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next two days. The situation may improve after Monday.

Many parts of the city and adjoining districts received moderate rainfall on Mahalaya with the thousands of pilgrims, who gathered along the Hooghly to offer Tarpan (a ritual to offer water and prayer to the ancestors' souls) witnessing light rainfall on Saturday morning. The MeT office is yet to issue any update on the whether condition in the city during the Puja days.
