Circular Railway trains to face 40 hr traffic & power block due to work on Majerhat bridge

Update: 2019-01-03 18:03 GMT

Kolkata: All Up and Down train services of Kolkata Circular Railway will short terminate or short originate with the state government taking up work for pulling down the entire road overbridge at Majerhat, a portion of which had caved in on September 4 last year.

"There will be a 40 hour traffic and power block from 2 pm on Saturday, January 5, to 6 am on Monday, January 7, as work will be started for dismantling the existing concrete girder of all spans (concrete beam) of Majerhat road overbridge over the Up and Down goods lines and Circular Railway line (Majerhat platform Nos. 4 & 5) on the Majerhat-Kolkata Section of Kolkata Circular Railway, for construction of the new road overbridge at Majerhat," a spokesperson of Eastern Railway said.

He further informed that all Up and Down EMU services of Kolkata Circular Railway will either short terminate or short originate at Princep Ghat station instead of Majerhat station from 2 pm on January 5 to 6 am on January 7.

Twelve EMU locals will short terminate on Saturday and twenty four EMU locals will short terminate on Sunday. They will originate at Princep Ghat station instead of Majerhat. Eastern Railway has further clarified that normal EMU services will be maintained in the Sealdah-Budge Budge section during the period of traffic and power block.

Meanwhile, train services were affected on the Sealdah-Ranaghat main line section of ER due to signal failure in all the four lines at Titagarh station since 10.15 am on Thursday.

Though train services were maintained through paper signalling, signal failure resulted in slow movement of train services.

Necessary repair work of the signalling system at Titagarh station started immediately on war footing and it was rectified by 12.18 pm.

Two pairs of EMU locals (2 Up and 2 Down) had to be cancelled while some EMU locals were detained en route during this period.
