Kolkata: The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested two more persons in connection with the circulation of Madhyamik question papers through WhatsApp.
The duo arrested from Malda on Wednesday night had created a WhatsApp group named Khokababu for circulating the question papers. The Madhyamik question papers were found to have been circulated on the messaging app for six days at a stretch, since the beginning of the examination on February 12.
The CID had taken up investigation of the case on the basis of a complaint lodged at Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. They had arrested five persons including two Madhyamik examinees on Monday in this connection.
According to sources in CID, among the fresh arrests that were made, one who is a resident of Kaliachowk in Malda is a higher secondary student of science.
During the course of investigation, CID sleuths came to know that the group mainly comprised students of Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations.
Soon after the question papers were circulated, the Higher Secondary students in the group quickly solved the short and objective type questions and circulated them among the group, which helped the Madhyamik examinees in solving the question papers.
There are nearly 150 members in the group and some more names have cropped up through interrogation of the arrested persons. The sleuths are also not ruling out involvement of some teachers in the group.
It may be mentioned that it was only on Wednesday, which was the last day of the examination, when the question paper that was circulated through WhatsApp, was found to not tally with the original question paper of the examination.
