Darjeeling: A Chinese national along with a Nepali and an Indian national were arrested from Siliguri on Sunday. Indian Aadhaar Cards were recovered from both the Chinese and Nepali nationals.
Incidentally, the Siliguri corridor also known as the Chicken Neck is strategically very important.
Surrounded by four international borders, including China, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh, this stretch connecting the North
East states with the Indian mainland is highly vulnerable. In the past, there have been numerous arrests of foreign nationals from
these areas.
According to sources, Po Wang, the Chinese national accompanied by one Ganesh Bhattarai, a Nepali national had arrived in Siliguri and checked into a hotel on Sevok Road a week back.
Intelligence agencies were keeping a close watch on them.
On Sunday, the duo were meeting one Bappai Agarwal, a local businessman engaged in the transport business when the sleuths arrested the trio.
Aadhaar cards along with other documents were seized from both the Chinese and Nepali national.
Wang also had a Chinese passport. During interrogation, they claimed that Wang was in India on a business trip.
However, questions were raised as to why they had Indian Aadhaar cards and why Wang had no Visa.
"The Nepali national and the businessman were produced at a Court on Monday and remanded to seven-day police custody,"
stated Sunil Kumar Chowdhury, Police Commissioner, Siliguri.
Owing to ill health, Wang, who is admitted to Siliguri Sub Divisional Hospital, could not be produced at the Court on Monday.
A laptop, mobile phone along with documents have been seized from Wang.
