Kolkata: A charred body was found on Sunday morning at Sapuipara in Belur area under Nischinda police station's jurisdiction. Police have recovered the body and sent for an autopsy examination.
According to local residents, early on Sunday morning some of them saw smoke near a housing complex.
A few local residents thought that someone had set garbage on fire. But, after a while when a few persons went close to the spot they saw a charred body of a youth.
Immediately, officers of Nischinda police station were informed.
Police officers arrived and found that the hand of the body was tied with a rope and a part of the body was inside a sack. Sleuths suspected that the person might have been murdered somewhere else and later the criminals dumped the body there and burnt it to hide the identity.
As the smoke was still there, police suspect that the whole operation was done in the wee hours on Sunday.
After removing the body, police circulated message to all concerned authorities to find if any person was missing in and around the area, including the surrounding districts.
Sleuths came to know that a cultural programme was going on close to the spot on Saturday night. The event continued till 2 am. Police are questioning the people who attended the programme if they had seen any suspicious activity in the
area.
Also, the residents of the housing will be questioned which is adjacent to the spot.
