Members of the CESC System Control Cultural Association observed its cultural and social service day on Saturday in the city through various programmes including a voluntary blood donation. The members also took a pledge to donate organs and a thalassemia blood carrier test for members and visitors.
The programme began at around 10 am on Saturday at Company's Princep Street Recreation Centre where
more than 50 CESC employees and their family members donated blood.
Chandranath Dey, secretary of the association, said: "The number of donors at our blood donation camps has exceeded 250 in the course of last three years. The signing of the pledge for organ donations has seen an encouraging response with the number reaching to 20."
A team of doctors from SSKM Hospital extended their guidance to the organisers and participants to make the event successful.
"To serve people in difficulty, CESC employees also respond to emergency blood donation calls whenever needed," Dey added.
