Calcutta University to hold 2-day symposium on science and technology development
The Centre of Excellence, University of Calcutta will hold a two-day multi-disciplinary symposium starting from Saturday, the first of its kind to take science and technology development out of the laboratory into the field.
The two-day symposium will start at the Centre for Research in Nano Science and Nano Technology of CU in Salt Lake. It is a part of the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP, MHRD) Phase II.
Fourteen speakers from different disciplines and walks of life will take part in the brainstorming session on Saturday.
They shall talk about administration, community linkage, science and technology development in academia and its translation into industry, from journalism and mass communication to clinic, from mathematical algorithms to literature, from grassroots innovation to cutting edge sophisticated devices that are used to understand and address open questions in life sciences, medicine, physical sciences, social sciences and earth sciences.
The common factor in all of them is "connecting the dots" decompartmentalising science, thinking to bring them into application and usher in an age of knowledge and wealth creation and celebrating traditional knowledge in the light of scientific rigour and technology innovation.
Grassroot level and cutting edge technology innovations shall be showcased along with poster presentations from scholars and researchers on the theme.
On Sunday, 50 chosen participants from different under-graduate and post-graduate institutions shall participate in a human resources workshop "classroom management in higher education", be trained in fire prevention and get hands-on training and demonstration to various sophisticated biomedical and materials sciences devices and innovation, said Professor Ena Ray Banerjee, department of Zoology, Immunology and Regenerative Medicine Research Unit of Calcutta University.
