Businessman shot at in New Town

Kolkata: Criminals shot at a businessman at his home in Baliguri, New Town, on Sunday night.

On Monday, he lodged a complaint with the New Town police station.

Cops have recovered a bullet shell from the spot. According to the police, on Sunday, around 11:30 pm, Maniruddin Molla, a local businessman, woke up hearing some noises coming from the backside of his house.

To identify the source of the noise he opened the sliding window of the balcony on the first floor of his two-storied house.

He opened the door and saw three persons under the balcony.

Seeing Molla sneaking out of the balcony one of them shot at him and they fled the scene on a motorbike.

The bullet missed Molla and hit the window pane. Hearing sound of firing, Molla rushed inside and closed the window.

On Monday morning, an FIR was lodged under Section of 25 (i)(a) of the Arms Act (manufactures, sells, transfers, converts, repairs, tests or proves, or exposes or offers for sale or transfer, or has in his possession for sale, transfer, conversion, repair,

test or proof, any arms or ammunition) and Section 27 of the Act (punishment for using arms).

Molla said he ran a rice shop near his home. He claimed he had no enmity with anybody and could not identify any recent incident where was involved in any altercation.

Though he claimed that he had a clean record, police officers are trying to confirm whether he is telling the truth.

Police are also trying to find out from their sources that if any arms deal had taken recently place.
