Body of teenage girl found hanging in Haridevpur

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 14-year-old girl whose body was found hanging from the ceiling inside her aunt's house at Haridevpur on Friday morning.
Police said that the victim, identified as Nilanjana Das (14) used to stay at her aunt's house in Haridevpur area in the southern fringes of the city. She was a student of Gangapuri Sikshasadan Girls School.
On Friday morning, the victim's uncle and aunt had gone to their workplaces. Some of the victim's friends had come to their house as they were supposed to go to a private tuition together.
Her friends found that the main gate of their house was open. They stepped into the room to find that the victim was hanging from the ceiling. They informed the matter to the local residents, who in turn informed the local police station.
Police rushed to the spot and sent her to MR Bangur Hospital where the doctors announced her brought dead. The body has been sent for postmortem examination.
Police have started a case of unnatural death. The victim's aunt and uncle have been informed about the matter. Police have recovered a diary from her room. No suicide note has been found from her room. Police are yet to confirm if the victim committed suicide or if there was any foul play involved behind her death.
Police have started a detailed probe in this regard. They are interrogating the victim's friends and family members in this connection so far. In the primary investigation, police have come to know that the victim had been suffering from some mental depression.
Police are investigating to ascertain if the victim had developed any love affair. Police are not, however, ruling out the possibility of the victim committing suicide. They are waiting for the postmortem report, which might throw some light on the girl's death.
