Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 26-year-old youth whose body was found inside a residential apartment at Madhyamgram in North 24-Parganas on late Saturday night.
The victim, identified as Omprakash Gupta, who was originally from Bihar had rented a flat in Michael Nagar area of Madhyamgram. He used to work at a shopping mall in the same area. Some locals told police that some youths entered his flat situated on the ground floor of the building on Saturday evening.
They also told the investigating officers that people often used to visit his house. After being informed police reached the spot and recovered the victim's body from inside the toilet. There were several injury marks on various parts of his body.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim might have been murdered. They are looking into all possible angles which could have led to his death. They collected samples from the bathroom where the body was found in a pool of blood.
According to police, some portion of the bathroom was found damaged which suggests that a scuffle might have broken out there. A portion of the commode was also found broken.
Police are interrogating locals to know the name of the flat owner. They have however started a case of unnatural death. The body has been sent for an autopsy which might throw some light on the nature of his death.
The investigating officers sealed the flat after the incident. They are also interrogating some of his colleagues in this connection. The family members of the victim have also been informed.
