BMC to beautify areas around Salt Lake stadium

 Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken up massive beautification drives in and around Yuva Bharati Krirangan, the venue for the proposed Under 17 World Cup football tournament, the biggest international show ever in Salt Lake since its beginning in the 1970s.
There will be two matches on October 8 followed by two matches on each day on October 11 and October 14. There will be a Round of 16 match on October 17 followed by a quarter-final match on October 24. The final will also be played here on October 28. The beautification drive will be carried out under the green city project at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore.
The boulevard around the stadium will be repaired and beautified. The stadium will be handed over to the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and the civic authorities will manage the infrastructure around. The roads surrounding the stadium will be repaired. The work will start after the monsoon.
BMC has given stress on the installation of top quality lighting arrangements for the matches. As the matches will be played in the evening, the entire areas will be brightly lit up. BMC along with Bidhannagar Commissionerate is preparing the blueprint for parking of vehicles which will be used by the organisers, VIPs, guests and football fans. Some sculptures will be installed as a part of the beautification drive.
BMC and Information and Cultural Affairs department is working to finalise branding, common logo etc. BMC along with I&CA department, Sports department and police are holding meetings regularly to make the international event a grand success.
