Kolkata: Tension cropped up at Parui in Birbhum on Saturday night, after Trinamool Congress and BJP workers got involved in a clash which continued throughout the night. On Sunday morning, police had to fire rubber bullets in order to control the situation.
According to sources, the clash originated on Saturday night at Simulia village in Parui, after some BJP-backed goons set fire to the houses of two Trinamool workers in Simulia village.
Following this, Trinamool workers tried to defend themselves and retaliated. It has been alleged that BJP workers and some miscreants had hurled bombs at Trinamool workers and their houses.
Later on Saturday night, police from Parui police station went to Simulia village and tried to control the situation but failed.
Later, a huge police force along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Combat Force were called in and the violent mob involved in the clash was dispersed.
Though the situation was controlled on Saturday night, it got heated up again on Sunday morning, as miscreants hurled bombs inside the village in order to capture the area.
It has been alleged that bombs were hurled in front of the police force. The miscreants allegedly fired multiple rounds as well. Both the parties alleged that houses of their workers were set on fire.
Even after several hours, police failed to control the situation. Later, they had to fire rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.
A huge police force has since been deployed in the area for any possible law and order situation. Police pickets have also been set up at strategic points.
