Kolkata: The Bidhannagar City Police has busted a racket for duping students with the promise of jobs in medical education and in other government departments like forest and arrested as many as five persons in this connection. The total cheated amount is to the tune of crores.
Bidhannagar East police station has taken up investigation in the case on the basis of a complaint that was lodged on October 15 last year by a resident of Dum Dum Park area.
The arrested persons have been identified as Snehasish Banerjee, alias Suraj Kumar of Behala, who has studied up to the 12th standard, Avishek Nayaek, alias Pratik Singh, who is an MBA and resident of a housing complex in New Town, Ram Prasad Ghosh of Barjora in Bankura who has studied also studied till class XII, Saikat Sarkar, a BTech and a resident of Dakshindari Road, Lake Town, Sahalam Salim of Topsia 2nd Lane in Tiljala who has completed his higher secondary and Nasim Anowar of Madhyamgram in North 24-Parganas.
"We have information that this organised racket has victimised many people, who were cheated in the name of getting chance in medical education, employment in forest department etc. Several indiscriminating documents, some electronic gadgets, fake passports and Rs 40,000 in cash have been recovered from the possession of the accused," a senior official of the Detective department of Bidhannagar City police said.
It may be mentioned that the complainant's brother had appeared in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) for the year 2017 for medical education.
