Kolkata: BJP supporters abused the officer-in-charge of Khejuri Women police station on Wednesday, after they were prevented from entering the area where prohibitory order under section 144 CrPC has been promulgated.

The trouble started when police stopped the BJP supporters, led by Bharati Ghosh, on their way. The state administrative headquarters have instructed the police to take stern action against the saffron party and arrest those involved in abusing the OC.

Protesting against the resistance from the police, Ghosh got down from her vehicle and sat on the road, demanding allowance to go inside the police station, where BJP had undertaken a thana gherao programme.

But when police refused to allow them, the BJP supporters got agitated and hurled bricks at them. When the officer-in-charge Anuska Maity reached the spot, she was manhandled and abused. The police resorted to lathi-charge and dispersed the mob.

The police soon began house-to-house raid to arrest the culprits. It may be recalled that the trouble at Keshpur began since Bharati Ghosh, BJP candidate for the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, lost to Dipak Adhikari alias Dev of Trinamool Congress.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leaders of West Midnapore alleged that BJP and CPI(M) cadres had threatened some of their supporters to leave the party.
