Kolkata: In a bid to improve connectivity in the newly formed district Jhargram, the state government has taken up a project to construct a new road from Lalgarh to Dohijhuri. This will also serve as connecting road with the newly constructed bridge over river Kansai. The state Irrigation department has constructed the bridge.
According to officials in the state Public Works Department (PWD), construction of the road from Lalgarh to Dahijhuri will bring into existence an alternate route that people can use to travel from Midnapore to Jhargram and vice-versa.
The official said that the state Irrigation department has constructed the bridge on river Kansai, but there were no roads in any of the two ends of the bridge that a vehicle could take after crossing the bridge.
Without wasting any time, concerned officials of the state government have taken all necessary steps to construct the connecting roads and necessary survey has been carried out. It was finally decided to construct a road that will connect Lalgarh and Dohijhuri with the bridge in between.
It may be mentioned that the Mamata Banerjee government had announced Jhargram as a police district to ensure better administrative work in the Junglemahal area. Later, it has become a new district and steps have been taken to create all necessary infrastructure.
An official said that improvement of connectivity was given priority while creating infrastructure in the newly formed district, so that people can easily move from one place to another in Jhargram.
Besides constructing the new road, steps have also been taken to strengthen and widen other existing roads in the district and within a few months after the Chief Minister had declared it as a new district, work has been initiated in full swing to ensure an overall development of the region.
