Kolkata: Purnendu Basu, minister in charge of Technical Education, Training & Skill Development, on Saturday called for transparency among the engineers and doctors who are in government services.
He was addressing a seminar on 'Sustainable Development, Low Cost Engineering and Naturopathy', organised by Progressive Forum of Engineers Agriculture Scientists and Doctors at West Bengal Veterinary Council Hall in Belgachia.
The minister also urged the engineers and other professionals present at the programme not to indulge in bad practices to earn money, as all people have accountability to the government and the society at large.
"I was going through a review where I came to know that various buildings of our department which are being constructed by the PWD are getting delayed. It has been learnt that the agency assigned to do the job is engaging some others who in turn are deploying a third party. They have been demanding 'cut money' of 2 percent in every stage. Engineers are fixing where to buy the materials and at what price. They are paving the way for others to get 'cut money'. This practice has to be stopped. We all have to take a pledge that we would stop such practices. We should support Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who has called for a corruption-free administration. I believe that the engineers and doctors in government services earn enough money to support their families," Basu told the
gathering.
