Baby girl dies in NRS, kin alleges medical negligence

Kolkata: A 22-day old baby girl who had been undergoing treatment at the NRS Medical College and Hospital for past few days with a hole in her small intestine died allegedly due to delay in blood transfusion.

The family members alleged negligence in the treatment. They had taken her to a district hospital where the doctors transferred the patient to the NRS Medical College and Hospital. There, the doctor diagnosed that she had a hole in her small intestine.
On Monday afternoon the doctors told the family members that she required blood transfusion and asked them to bring B Negative blood. The family members went to the hospital blood bank where they were told that there was no B Negative blood. They were also told to come on Tuesday. When they came to the hospital blood bank they were told that B Negative blood could not be arranged. The family members rushed to the Manicktala blood bank. When they returned to the hospital with blood they were told that the patient had died.
