Auto-rickshaw driver arrested for harassing passenger

Kolkata: A 45-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was arrested from Parnasree on charges of sexually harassing a passenger.
Police said the incident took place on Tuesday night and the person was arrested on Wednesday morning based on the complaint lodged by the woman.
Police said the 26-year-old woman lodged the complaint with Parnasree police station alleging that she was harassed when she was travelling in the auto-rickshaw from Kumarpara to Chowrasta.
Initially, the woman didn't realise that the auto-rickshaw driver would start misbehaving after covering some distance. She started crying for help when the person started harassing her and it forced the driver to stop
the vehicle.
As soon as the auto-rickshaw stopped, the woman somehow
managed to move out of it and ran for a safe place.
The woman lodged a complaint with the local police station.
Police initiated a probe in this connection and arrested the person. The vehicle was also seized.
They have taken the statement of the complainant. Police have also spoken to some of the people of the area to get some more information in connection
with the incident.
A police officer said they are taking all necessary steps to check recurrence of such incident.
They are also trying to figure whether there is any record of such incident in the area and would take appropriate measures to ensure such incidents do not take place in future.
