Kolkata: A woman was allegedly slapped by an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) at Park Street on Wednesday evening.
Later, the woman lodged a written complaint at Park Street police station against the ASI but till Thursday night no case was initiated.
The woman is an employee of a private organisation situated in the Park Street area. According to her statement, on Wednesday evening, she booked an app-cab after her work was over.
The cab had reached in front of Park Hotel through Russel Street. As she was waiting for the cab a bit far from the destination, she asked the driver to wait and was walking towards it.
In the meantime, on-duty traffic police personnel asked the cab driver to move away as that is a no-parking zone.
Having no other choice, he slowly started moving his car and the woman kept following it.
After a few meters, the cab driver again tried to stop but one ASI rank identified as Hiralal Mondal allegedly hit the cab with a stick and screamed at the driver to move forward because no cars are allowed to park or wait there for
their passengers.
At the same moment, the woman tried to reach him by putting her hand on Mondal's jacket and request him let to her board the cab.
But before she could complete her words, Mondal allegedly turned and slapped her for no reason.
When she demanded an answer, he allegedly yelled at her saying he could get her arrested for putting her hand on the uniform of a
police personnel.
"I was stunned and could not believe what just happened. When some nearby pedestrians and my colleagues asked Mondal to apologise, he abruptly refused to do so," said the woman.
Sources informed that she immediately called an IPS officer known to her and narrated the incident. Within a few minutes, police personnel from Park Street police station arrived on the spot. She was asked to go to the police station and submit a
written complaint.
Later, she went with to the Park Street police station and lodged a complaint but no case was initiated.
On Thursday, both the accused and the complainant were asked to appear before Deputy Commissioner (DC), South, regarding
the incident.
According to the sources, Mondal on Thursday claimed that his hand touched the woman accidentally when he was managing traffic.
