Arrival time for HS examinees extended by half-an-hour

Kolkata: In the wake of incessant rain and inclement weather across the state for the past few days, the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has decided to allow students to enter the examination centre anytime between 9.30 am and 9.45 am.

Earlier, the time of arrival at the examination centres was 9 am. The new timing will be followed from the next day of examination.

The WBCHSE has also asked the head of the institutions to consider the case if a student enter the examination venue a little late due to bad weather. The decision was taken on the second day of Higher Secondary Examination.

According to a press statement issued by the President, WBCHS, Mahua Das on Thursday, all the District Inspector of Schools have been requested to inform the centre committee and the joint conveners students coming late would be allowed to enter the respective examination centres.

According to the earlier schedule, students were advised to reach their venues by 9 am, which is an hour before the examination starts so that they don't miss their examination due to any emergency problem such as traffic congestion. As many as 8,16,243 candidates are taking the examination, which started on 26 February and will continue till 13 March.

The duration of each paper of examination is three hours and 15 minutes (10am to 1.15 pm). Candidates can only go through the question paper in the first 15 minutes or can use the remaining three hours and 15 minutes to write answers.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the council may cancel registration of some HS candidates who were found using mobile phones inside the examination centres. Two students were from the city while another was from a school in Bhangar.

Five students were caught while entering the examination centres with mobile phones on the first day of the Higher Secondary examination on Tuesday. While four students are from Malda, one is from Howrah district. The Council decided not to allow these candidates to sit for any other examination. It had earlier warned the students that their registration number could be cancelled if they were found using mobile phones during examination.
