Arms dealer held with huge cache of weapons

KOLKATA: Murshidabad district police on Monday apprehended an arms dealer from the Mohana bus stand in Berhampore and recovered a huge cache of firearms. The accused, Barun Halder, is a resident of Sardanga in Tehatta, Nadia district.
"We were vigilant based on information from a source for the last few days. He was arrested from the bus stand and was carrying the firearms to Domkal in the border areas and have claimed to have procured the arms from Munger, Bihar," Mukesh, superintendent of police Murshidabad said.
Three pipeguns, five modern 7.65 bore pistols, 100 rounds of ammunition and 10 rounds of magazines were recovered from his possession. The police have seized his mobile phone and Rs 1 lakh from his posession.
"He was about to board a bus along with his wife and son when  he was nabbed," a senior police  official said. 
Sleuths informed that the accused would bring in arms from Munger and Sahebgunj, Bihar and would carry them to Thanarpara and Domkal in Murshidabad for selling.
"We are yet to ascertain whether he was associated with arms dealing across the border. We will take him into custody and grill him for further leads," Mukesh said.
The police have got the names of other people who were involved in arms dealing with Biren. "Raids are on and we hope that there will be some more arrests," a police officer said.
