Kolkata: A notorious criminal from Howrah identified as Manoar Ali, alias Guddu, was found dead on Wednesday morning from the Sandhyabazar area in Howrah.
On Wednesday morning around 5 am, locals saw a man lying on a cycle van with his throat slit. Some locals identified him as Manoar Ali, alias Guddu. Howrah police station was immediately informed. Police sent the body for autopsy. According to local sources, Guddu was a henchman of Ramua, who was murdered by some criminals on Sunday night inside his rented flat in Sodepur. But Guddu had developed enmity with Ramua a few years ago and left the gang. Later, Guddu joined Ramesh Mahato's gang, who is a known rival of Ramua.
Police sources informed that Guddu was accused in several murder, extortion and other cases and arrested multiple times. Last time, he was arrested in October, 2018, on charge of sections of Arms Act. Recently, he got bail and went somewhere in South 24-Parganas to take shelter.
It is suspected that Guddu might have had thought that in Ramua's absence, he could take over his area of domination. It is also suspected that he was connected to Ramua's murder.
During the preliminary investigation, the sleuths suspect that the gang members of Ramua might have murdered Guddu as the style of committing the crime is similar to their style. According to sources, the sleuths got to know that Mahato's gang had gathered somewhere in Shibpur area, where Guddu also joined them. What happened afterwards is not clear. Police are checking the CCTV footages of a nearby shop to find out who had placed Guddu's body on the van at Sandhyabazar.
