Animal Resource dept asks district officials to bolster vigil at dump yards

Kolkata: The Animal Resource Development Department (ARD) directed its concerned officials in districts, to maintain a proper vigil at dump yards in their respective areas.
The direction has been given to avoid incidents like the one that happened at Budge Budge in South 24-Parganas, in which two youths were arrested when found chopping off meat from carcasses of dead animals.
According to the sources in the ARD department, directions have been given to the deputy directors posted in districts. They have been directed to maintain a strict vigil, so that such an incident doesn't take place again.
The officials in the district have also received direction to prepare a list, containing details of all the dump yards in their respective areas and to intensify the vigil. The officials would also ask local people to inform them, if they find anyone attempting to carry out any such activities.
However, the top brass of the ARD department is also waiting for the report of the police, containing their findings in connection with the incident that took place at Budge Budge. The police are probing the incident, in which local people caught two youths chopping off meat from carcasses of dead animals and handed them over to the police after beating them up.
The police are trying to ascertain the exact reason why they were chopping off meat from dead animals. They have questioned the duo in this connection.
