Kolkata: The Directorate of Anti Corruption Branch (ACB), West Bengal has arrested a revenue inspector posted in the BL & LRO office at Nandakumar in East Midnapore, while accepting money for land conversion.
Swapan Kumar Jalua was apprehended red-handed by a team of ACB while accepting bribe money of Rs 15,000 from the complainant for facilitating conversion of 28 decimal of land from 'Jal' to 'Vaastu'. An official of the ACB office said that Jalua had demanded Rs 50,000 from the complainant against the land deal. "He had agreed to accept Rs 15,000 as the first installment after negotiation," he added. A trap was laid and accordingly, he was nabbed while accepting the first installment on Wednesday. A case has been initiated under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Jalua will be produced at the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge at Bichar Bhaban in Kolkata on Thursday. 10 days ago, ACB had caught superintendent of excise in East Midnapore Manik Sarkar for accepting bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
