Kolkata: Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool Youth Congress president and party's MP from Diamond Harbour has severely criticised the BJP for circulating fake news to reap benefit at a time when the whole nation is fighting against the COVID- 19 pandemic.
Banerjee tweeted: "The party which 'runs on ideology' has no ideals when dissemination of information is concerned! Sweet or sour, truth or lie, whatever benefits them is what's made seen. Even at a time when the country is facing a crisis, they don't budge an inch from spreading fake narratives."
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has over and over criticised the saffron party for circulating fake news. She requested BJP "not to destroy Bengal and do something constructive." She had also urged the leader of the party to come out on the street and take part in the cleaning operation.
In the past one and a half month when the nationwide lockdown was clamped on March 24, BJP-IT cell circulated several videos in the social media which were detected to be fake by the police.
On April 18, a person was arrested for uploading a picture of a protest against CAA at Surat showing it to be that at Metiabruz. A fake video was uploaded on people loitering on the street flouting the lockdown protocol over a week ago.
Another youth was arrested from Gaighata in North 24-Parganas for uploading false videos.
Banerjee said it was most unfortunate that the BJP which speaks of ideology has left no stones unturned to spread canard against the Bengal government by showing fake videos to gain politically.
It may be mentioned that without going through the official order of the Principal Secretary, where the Health department had said that mild COVID-19 cases to stay in home quarantine, Rahul
Sinha went overboard and had criticised Mamata Banerjee saying that because of poor infrastructure in the state-run hospitals such an action was taken.
