Kolkata: Bidhannagar Police has nabbed eight armed robbers from New Town and Duttabad in the last three days. Several more accused had fled the scene as police could not get hold of them.
According to sources, late on Monday night, a police team raided the Balir Math area at Duttabad led by Sub-Inspector Mahesh Das and identified three suspects. It was alleged that the trio had gathered to hatch a plan to commit a crime somewhere in Salt Lake. But before they could act, the cops got the tip-off about suspicious movement there.
Seeing the police van, the trio tried to give the police a slip but failed as the personnel chased them down and managed to catch the three suspects. During search, several sharp weapons were recovered and seized from them. The trio, identified as Pintu Mallick of Duttabad, Bikash Baspot (21) and Gopal Baspot of Nowbhanga were arrested on charges of making preparation to commit dacoity (Section 399 of the IPC) and assembling for purpose of committing dacoity (Section 402 of the IPC).
In another case, late on Tuesday night, cops from New Town police station raided the space under the New Town Bridge area led by Sub-Inspector Pravakar Adhikary and identified 15-16 suspects. Seeing the police van, they allegedly started running in several directions. The police personnel chased them and caught five suspects. During the search, one chopper one 'vojali' and one torch light, one lock cutter, one knife and one lock breaker were found and seized accordingly. They were also booked under Section 399 and 402 of the IPC.
Police are trying to locate the accused who had fled the scene.
