Kolkata: The younger brother of one Prithwi Baran Ganguly (78) whose body was found at his residence under Bidhannagar East police station on Sunday morning lodged a complaint saying that the deceased's maidservant had conspired with his driver to kill the house owner.
The incident has created a sensation at EE Block of Salt Lake on Sunday. On the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim's younger brother, Dibyendu, also a resident of the same Block, the police have arrested the maidservant, identified as Jaba Chakraborty, and driver Ranjit Santra.
The complainant told the police that the victim who used to reside with his wife at his residence had been suffering from age-related ailments for the past few months. The couple was being looked after by the maidservant and the driver. The complainant told the police that he saw a hearse in front of the house of the deceased on Sunday morning.
As the younger brother rushed to the spot, he was stopped by Jaba and Ranjit after which they produced a death certificate of the victim. The complainant alleged that his elder brother might have been poisoned to death by the duo and demanded a detailed probe into the incident.
The body of the victim was sent to Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem.
Both the accused were remanded to three days' police custody after being produced before a court.
Ganguly was an employee of the Kolkata Metropolitan Water and Sanitation Authority. During preliminary interrogation, Jaba demanded that Ganguly had given her a portion of the flat. But she could not produce any papers in this regard. Police are also trying to find out if Ganguly had any will or not. His wife has been shifted to a relative's house following Sunday's incident.
