A seven-year-old girl was allegedly molested by one of her neighbours. The incident took place at Jora Assathhatala area of Bandel.
The local residents on Wednesday ransacked the house of the accused. Police said that the accused and his family members have been at large since the incident came to light. The family members lodged a complaint at the local police station on the basis of which the police have started a probe.
The victim was playing in front of the house of the accused Seikh Saheb who is a mason on Tuesday evening. The accused lured the girl with a promise of a gift and took her inside his house where he sexually abused her. The victim returned home in a traumatised condition. She also fell sick. When the victim's family members asked her what happened, the girl broke down and told them about the incident.
The baby had to be admitted to Chinsurah Imambara hospital on Tuesday night. After the local residents came to know about the incident, they gathered outside the house of the accused and found that the accused and other family members had fled from their house. The local residents then went on a rampage ransacking the house of the accused. Police later reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Locals demanded strong action against the accused.
