51-year-old held for sexually abusing mentally challenged girl in East Midnapore

Kolkata: A 51-year-old man from Panskura in East Midnapore was arrested on the charges of sexually torturing a mentally

challenged girl. The incident took place at Baharpota village of the same district. Police came to know in the course of investigation that the accused had allegedly sexually tortured her for past four months. The family members of the victim girl lodged a complaint with the local police station on the basis of which police arrested the accused, Ashoke Samanta. The family members told police that the accused, a local businessman, used to allure the victim to his shop and sexually assault her on repeated occasions.

The matter came to light after she became pregnant. She was taken to a nearby health centre. The incident has created a flutter in the village. The family members also told police about the accused and his threats to the victim over not to make the matter public failing which she would face dire consequences. The accused, however, denied the allegation and told police he is being framed. Cops have started a detailed probe in

this regard.
