4 held for kidnapping youth from Garden Reach area

Kolkata: Four persons were arrested from Garden Reach on Sunday on charges of kidnapping a 22-year-old youth.

Police arrested Md Jamshed Ali (32), Moinul Haque (19), Md Afsar (19) and Abu Junaid (19). All four of them are the residents of Garden Reach area.

Police rescued the youth, Md Aslam, from in front of a private nursing home in Garden Reach.

Police said they received a complaint on Saturday alleging that a youth was kidnapped and his family members received a ransom call.

The youth's father lodged the complaint with Rajabagan Police Station in this connection on Saturday after receiving phone calls demanding money. The victim's family members told the police that Aslam had gone missing for the past few hours and they panicked after receiving the phone calls.

Police have initiated a probe under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of kidnapping for ransom (364A IPC) and Criminal Conspiracy (120B IPC) based on the complaint lodged by the victim's family members.

Subsequently, police went in front of the nursing home in Garden Reach, rescued the youth safely and then arrested Jamshed, Moinul, Afsar and Junaid.

Police are trying to get more information about the incident but after preliminary investigation they came to know that a financial dispute led to the crime. A police officer said they came to know that the dispute was between the youth and Junaid. It was learnt that they had confined him in lieu of Rs 17,000.

They were remanded to 2-day police custody after being produced before a city court. Police are trying to get more information and would speak to some more people in this connection.
