Kolkata: Four police personnel were killed in a road accident at Palsit in Burdwan, in the wee hours of Monday. A truck hit the car in which the police personnel were travelling on NH 2. According to sources, the four deceased police personnel were posted in the police line and on the occasion of Kali Puja, they were instructed to perform duty in Memari. After completion of duty, the four police personnel identified as Badal Sarkar, Anup Kumar Bala, Prabir Kumar Hati and Biswajit Samui were released from Memari police station. They soon started out late on Sunday night from Memari in a car. After they crossed the Palsit highway toll plaza, a speeding truck hit the car from behind. Local residents heard the sound of the impact and ran to the spot.
After seeing the aftermath of the accident, locals informed police. Later, police personnel came and rushed the four victims to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, where Sarkar, Bala and Samui were declared brought dead, while Hati succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.
Police have seized the offending truck but the driver had managed to flee soon after the accident. MPOST
