Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the success of the two-day annual 5th Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), which will be inaugurated by her at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, on Thursday.
Representatives of around 36 countries including United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, UAE, Czech Republic, Japan and Polland are joining the two-day conference.
Industry doyens like Reliance Industries' chairman Mukesh Ambani, JSW Group's chief Sajjan Jindal, Future Group head Kishore Biyani, ITC's CEO Sanjiv Puri, RP Sanjiv Goenka Group's chairman Sanjiv Goenka, Ambuja Neotia Group's chairman Harshvardhan Neotia, a representative of Adani Group along with Mayank Jalan, Rudra Chatterjee are expected to attend the Summit.
The Chief Minister said she had invited the Union Industry and Commerce minister Suresh Prabhu to attend the conference. "He has sent his best wishes," she said adding all the sectors will be highlighted at the conference.
The event will have representatives of various Chambers of Commerce, business houses and IT companies. Bengal has evolved as a major IT hub and Banerjee has inaugurated the Bengal Silicon Valley, which is coming up on 100 acres, recently. IT giant Infosys will also come up with its office here shortly.
State Finance minister Amit Mitra will address the gathering in which around 4,000 delegates are likely to take part. There will be Business-To-Business (B2B) meetings, discussions and several business deals which are likely to be signed during the event. Bengal aims to emphasise on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Tourism at the meet.
Several tourism hubs have come up in Bengal. The state also has a well-knit land policy and housing policy. Investors can buy land at market price and the state government provides all necessary infrastructural support regarding the same. The Bengal government has been making concrete efforts to support business initiatives. In 2018, business announcements worth Rs 2,19,925 crore were made at the Bengal Global Business Summit.
Senior officials of the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA), Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) and the state Industry department along with 100 officials of various departments recently held a coordination meeting. Foolproof arrangements have been made to organise a hassle-free conference. From the parking lot, the delegates and the guests will be brought to the venue in luxury buses. Several food kiosks have been set up to serve the guests.
This apart, the Chief Minister hosted a dinner for the guests at Eco Park on Wednesday evening, which was attended by senior bureaucrats and senior editors of various media houses.
