Kolkata: A three-year-old boy from Lake Town reportedly died of dengue at a private hospital in Park Circus on Sunday morning.
The victim, Aharshi Dhar, was hospitalised for the past few days.
Senior state health department officials recently held a meeting to initiative various measures to check the rise in dengue cases in the city.
It has been alleged that many people in the city and adjoining districts have already been affected with the disease. The patient was admitted to the hospital a few days ago with high fever.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and other civic bodies have undertaken massive campaigns to create awareness about dengue and strengthened the conservancy works.
Many people have died of dengue in the state so far. It may be mentioned here that dengue cases have gone up in Sandeshkhali, Hingalgunj and Hasnabad in North 24-Parganas, which are 'Bulbul' affected areas, as water accumulated in some pockets of the area.
It may be mentioned here that Harbra and Ashokenagar areas of North 24-Parganas witnessed a spur in dengue cases with hundreds of people being admitted to the Habra state general hospital. The situation has been brought under control following rigorous measures taken by the Health department and local civic bodies.
According to a state health department official, the number of dengue cases have gone up in the state in the past one month but there is however nothing to panic. All the preventive measures have been taken and the district health officers and the civic officials have been asked to carry out anti-dengue drive. The official also said that the disease will subside after the winter sets in the state.
