3-year-old gets electrocuted while playing at home

Kolkata: A three-year-old boy got electrocuted after he came in contact with an open electric wire at Kultali in South 24-Parganas. He was rushed to Canning Sub-Divisional Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Locals informed that on Wednesday morning Salim Shaikh (3) was playing at his home like any other day. His family members had failed to notice the wire hanging loose from the room's fan and Shaikh's proximity to it. The electricity connection of the wire was on.

While playing, Shaikh touched the wire and immediately got electrocuted. As Shaikh fell on the floor, some family members noticed and hurried inside. The electric connection of the fan was put off. Though he was rushed to hospital in no time, little Shaikh passed away just after the electrocution. His body was later sent for an autopsy.

In another incident, two youths got electrocuted after an overhead electric wire fell on them. They were declared brought dead at Diamond Harbour District Hospital.

Locals informed that Sudip Majhi (23) and Jagai Dheri (20), residents of Goaldnari village at Falta were returning home riding a bicycle in the rain on Tuesday night. On reaching near Khorulia village, an overhead electrical wire fell on both of them.

As the connection was alive, both of them got electrocuted and fell on the road. A passerby noticed them and rushed to their aid. After coming close to them, the rescuer noticed that both of them had come in contact with a live electric wire. Some locals used a wooden stick to separate the duo from the wire. Soon after Majhi and Dheri were rushed to hospital and declared dead.
