Kolkata: The Kanya-shree University Bill and the Harichand Guruchand University Bill were among three Bills that were passed in the state Assembly on Wednesday.

It has been stated that "the state government has been

considering establishment of a second women's university, with the view to facilitate higher education among women, with special emphasis on the women known as 'Kanyashree' under the Kanyashree Prakalpa."

In view of having huge success record for ensuring the empowerment of adolescent girls through complete school education in the state and also having achieved recognition from the United Nations Organisation and to achieve ultimate success for the prakalpa, an institution of higher learning will provide further impetus to the

actualisation of women's potential in the state. The Kanyashree University will come up in Nadia.

On the other hand, the Harichand Guruchand University will come up in North 24-Parganas. It has been stated that "North 24-Parganas has no university of its own. Establishment of the proposed university will surely bring the awakening light of higher

education among the comparatively poor and econom-

ically backward classes of

people. The primary objective of establishment of the university is to create a centre of

excellence in the field of culture and social studies in the undergraduate and post-graduate levels having employment potential, along with other courses."

At the same time, the Bengal Smoke-Nuisances (Repealing) Bill has also been passed in the Assembly.
