Kolkata: The second campus of Scottish Church Collegiate School has come up at Kestopur. While the Bishop of Kolkata Dr Paritosh Canning inaugurated the second campus at Emmanuel Church, State Consumer Affairs minister Sadhan Pande, minister for Technical Education Purnendu Basu and Mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation Krishna Chakraborty were present during the inauguration event.
"After swearing-in as Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee has always been focusing on the development of education in the state. The government has allotted land to set up new campus for St Xavier's University, Presidency University and Aliah University at New Town. She always wants that students from weaker section of the society should not be deprived of education. The second campus of Scottish Church Collegiate School will impart education to students from all the sections of the society," Basu said.
While the Scottish Church Collegiate School is a selective boys' school in north Kolkata, it was founded in 1830 by Reverend Alexander Duff, who came to Calcutta as the first missionary of the Church of Scotland to India.
It might be mentioned that well-known personalities such as Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose were also the alumni of the Scottish Church Collegiate School in north Kolkata.
The Scottish Church Collegiate School is a Christian Minority School Under
Article 30 of the Constitution of India.
The school managing committee is constituted by the Governing Body of Diocesan Schools and Diocese of Calcutta (Church of North India) the present Founder Body of the school.
"Scottish Church Collegiate School at the Emmanuel Church premises is an English medium co-ed school. The admission form for the upcoming academic session will be available from December 2. We are grateful to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her support to establish the new second campus of the school," said Bishop Canning.
