Ten children were injured when a school bus fell into a ditch after being hit by another vehicle at Durgapur in West Burdwan on Friday afternoon.
Police said after speaking to people who had witnessed the incident that a truck was approaching towards the school bus from behind at high speed. Despite giving a passage to pass, the truck brushed past the school bus. The driver of the school bus failed to control the vehicle and it fell into a roadside ditch.
Local people initiated the rescue work and were later joined by policemen from the local police station. They rescued all the children and the driver. All of them received minor injuries and were taken to a health centre and administered necessary treatment.
In another incident in front of Ballygunge police station at South Kolkata, a private bus hit two taxis.
Some passengers of the bus received injuries and the front portions of both the taxis were damaged. Police went to the spot and seized the bus.
A traffic sergeant said that it would have led to a major accident but somehow the driver of the bus managed to slow down the speed of the bus after losing control over the vehicle.
