1 held for trying to smuggle 4,500 bottles of cough syrup

BALURGHAT: Acting on a specific tip off conducted under the guidance of Inspector-in-Charge of Gangarampur police station, Gautam Roy, police seized 4,500 bottles of cough syrup from Badhmore area of Haldarpara (East) under Gangarampur municipality on Monday night.

Police have arrested one Sambhu Singha (25). He was caught red-handed while he was loading the bottles in his four-wheelers with an intention to smuggle those elsewhere. He hails from Shibpur (North) Village under Banshihari

police station.

Police said Sambhu had kept the bottles inside an abandoned house at Badhmore. They have also seized a four-wheeler along with two motorcycles from the spot.

Cops have produced the accused before Gangarampur sub-divisional court

on Tuesday. According to a police source, there have been several cases pending against the accused at Gangarampur police station. He has also been accused in murdering a local youth of Nayabazar. Police said Sambhu got bail from the

court recently.

"We had information about the matter and seized 4,500 bottles of cough syrup that were stored for smuggling. We caught a person red-handed. Specific charges have also been brought against him," said district police chief Nagendra Nath Tripathi.
